The impact of industry and road transport on local regional and national air quality may be determined by ambient monitoring and/or predictive modelling. Air pollution dispersion models, if used wisely, can offer a powerful and cost-effective tool for planning and environmental impact assessment. GPECS uses internationally-validated dispersion models for industrial emissions. For larger air quality studies requiring inputs from industrial point and fugitive emissions, and traffic emission sources, ISC-ST3, AERMOD and CALPUFF can be used.

Our modelling studies have covered a wide variety of pollutants, time periods and spatial scales. Our models have been carefully validated by a comparison of predicted and observed pollution levels, so the predictions are readily accepted for planning and regulatory purposes. Some of the models we use include:

  • AAQUIRE 6.1 - an integrated air quality management modelling system
  • AERMOD and ISC (Industrial Source Complex) - for industrial point or area source emissions
  • CALROADS
  • CALPUFF
